India, UAE Strengthen Ties with LNG Supply and Defence Agreements

India and the UAE have announced plans to strengthen their strategic partnership, focusing on defence and energy cooperation. During a three-hour visit by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and MBZ agreed to a 10-year LNG supply deal of 0.5 million tonnes annually and set a target to double bilateral trade to $200 billion by 2032. They signed a letter of intent for a strategic defence partnership, which will expand collaboration in areas such as cyber-security and counter-terrorism. The two nations also plan to explore advanced nuclear technologies and enhance cooperation in space industry development. The UAE is India's fourth-largest oil source and second-largest LNG supplier, with total trade reaching $100 billion in 2024-25.
