India Advocates for Balanced Climate Action Ahead of COP31
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav emphasized the need for equal focus on adaptation, mitigation, and implementation as India prepares for the COP31 summit in Türkiye from November 9 to 20. Speaking at the UNFCCC Pre-COP31 meetings in Fiji, he highlighted the importance of local assessments in addressing climate challenges. Yadav noted India's expertise in coastal vulnerability assessment and offered to share knowledge with Pacific nations. The upcoming summit is expected to address adaptation finance, access to climate finance for vulnerable countries, and national climate commitments. Türkiye holds the summit presidency, while Australia leads the negotiations.
