India Ensures Fertilizer Supply Amid Global Gas Disruptions
The Indian government has assured fertilizer companies that gas supply for production remains a top priority, addressing concerns over a potential 40 to 60% decrease in natural gas availability. As of March 6, 2025, fertilizer reserves have surged 36.5% year-on-year to 177.31 lakh metric tonnes, including 59.30 LMT of urea. The government has imported 98 LMT of finished fertilizers and plans to secure an additional 17 LMT in the next three months. With 30% of natural gas imports routed through the Strait of Hormuz, officials noted that over 85% of gas used for fertilizer manufacturing is imported. Despite global supply chain challenges, the government emphasizes that farmers should proceed with kharif preparations without panic.
