Nitish Kumar Announces Rajya Sabha Candidature, Bihar to Get New CM

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced his candidacy for the Rajya Sabha, marking the end of his two-decade tenure as CM. Kumar, who has served as CM since 2005, filed his nomination papers on March 16, flanked by key BJP leaders. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) holds a majority of 202 seats in the 243-member assembly, paving the way for a BJP chief minister for the first time in Bihar. Kumar's departure creates a significant political shift in the state, which has been dominated by him and former CM Lalu Prasad since 1990. His successor is expected to be chosen from the BJP, with potential candidates including Union minister Nityanand Rai and deputy CM Samrat Chaudhury. Kumar expressed gratitude to the people of Bihar for their support during his tenure, stating he would continue to work for the state's development.
