Lula Seeks Extradition of Former Intelligence Chief from US

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has requested the United States to extradite former intelligence chief Alexandre Ramagem, who was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Florida. Ramagem fled Brazil in September after being sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in a coup plot supporting former president Jair Bolsonaro. Lula expressed optimism about Ramagem's return to serve his sentence. Bolsonaro's allies have downplayed the detention, suggesting it was a routine traffic stop. Ramagem is also accused of spying on political rivals during his tenure as head of Brazil's intelligence agency. The US and Brazil recently announced a partnership to combat drug and weapons trafficking.
