NIA Court Convicts Mohammed Haneef Khan in Al-Hind ISIS Case

A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru has sentenced Mohammed Haneef Khan to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹48,000 in the 2020 Al-Hind ISIS terror conspiracy case. Haneef is the first of 20 accused to be convicted. He pleaded guilty during the trial, which began in October 2025. The NIA's investigation revealed that Haneef was part of a reconnaissance team scouting locations for training camps for the Al-Hind ISIS module. The conspiracy aimed to establish an ISIS province in India, allegedly masterminded by Mehaboob Pasha, who provided Haneef with firearms and ammunition. The case was initially registered by Karnataka police on January 10, 2020, before being taken over by the NIA, which continues to investigate the matter.
