Pentagon Proposes $1.5 Trillion Defence Budget to Counter China

The Pentagon is proposing a $1.5 trillion defence budget to enhance military capabilities against China, particularly regarding Taiwan. A report submitted to Congress outlines plans for new anti-ship weapons, including a $592 million initiative for the Quicksink seeker add-on, aimed at converting existing munitions into effective anti-ship weapons. The report highlights China's military expansion and readiness by 2027, with the People’s Liberation Army focusing on Taiwan unification. The budget also requests nearly $2.5 billion for unmanned systems and $531 million for new mine technologies. The proposed spending is 44% higher than the previous year, reflecting a shift in US military strategy in the Indo-Pacific region.
