Indian Navy Plans to Add 17 Ships by 2026
The Indian Navy aims to enhance its capabilities by adding 17 ships by 2026, following a record launch of 12 vessels since December 2024. The current warship construction duration has been reduced to 31 months, down from 55-60 months. The guided missile destroyer INS Surat was completed in this timeframe. India is also acquiring six submarines under Project 75 I, with ₹42,968 crore allocated for construction at Mazagon Dockyards Limited. The Navy is focusing on maritime developments amid concerns over Pakistan's naval expansion and China's influence in the Indo-Pacific. Recent discussions with US Indo-Pacific Command aim to strengthen bilateral naval exercises and training.
