New Agnipath Framework Extends Service for 75% of Agniveers
The revamped Agnipath framework announced on Wednesday applies only to the 300,000 current Agniveers. This change follows the decision to retain 75% of Agniveers for an additional two years after their initial four-year tenure, allowing for a potential transition to regular military service. The remaining 25% will be inducted as permanent soldiers immediately. The next batch of Agniveers will begin training early next year and complete their tenure in 2031. The government aims to align Agniveers' aspirations with military efficiency, responding to performance evaluations that highlighted their skills and capabilities. The scheme will undergo periodic reviews to adapt to military needs.
