Joint List Backs Eisenkot for Israel's Next Government Formation

Israel's Joint List, the largest Arab political alliance, announced on 5 November its support for opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot to form the next government. Following the general election on 27 October, Arab-led parties secured a record 19 of the 120 Knesset seats, with Joint List holding 11 and Ra’am 8. Netanyahu's Likud party, despite being the largest with 27 seats, faces challenges as his traditional ally, United Torah Judaism, declined to endorse any candidate. Eisenkot's potential backing could rise to 67 lawmakers, surpassing the 61 needed for a majority. President Isaac Herzog is conducting consultations to determine who can form a viable government, with a decision expected soon. If unsuccessful, Israel may face another election early next year.
