Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing began a five-day visit to India on May 30, 2026, focusing on enhancing cooperation in trade, connectivity, border security, and defence. He arrived in Gaya to visit the Mahabodhi temple before heading to Delhi. This visit follows his recent inauguration as president after Myanmar's parliamentary elections. Aung Hlaing is accompanied by a high-level delegation. Discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1 will cover historical ties and defence and trade relations. The visit also includes a trip to Mumbai on June 2 for business interactions. Myanmar shares a 1,640-km border with northeastern Indian states, including Nagaland and Manipur, making it a strategic neighbour for India.
