USCIRF Opposes Mohan Bhagwat's US Visit, Calls for Visa Revocation

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has reiterated its opposition to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat's visit to the US, calling for the revocation of his visa and barring him from future entry. USCIRF expressed concerns over alleged violent attacks against religious minorities in India, stating that religious freedom conditions are deteriorating. Bhagwat arrived in the US on August 25 for a global outreach programme and is scheduled to address approximately 5,000 members of the Indian diaspora at Madison Square Garden. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has also voiced opposition to Bhagwat's event. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned USCIRF's statements, labelling the commission as biased. USCIRF was established in 1998 to review international religious freedom violations and make policy recommendations.
