Modi, Carney Discuss India-Canada Trade Agreement Ahead of Ministerial Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on October 13, focusing on enhancing India-Canada relations. Both leaders highlighted the need to expedite the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations, aiming to double bilateral trade, currently valued at approximately $23 billion, by 2030. The conversation coincided with the visit of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu to India, where they engaged with Indian counterparts on various sectors including trade and energy. Sidhu is leading a delegation of around 300 Canadian representatives, the largest in three decades, to explore joint ventures in key industries. The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties and foster collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region.
