Manipur Home Minister Meets Shah Amid Ongoing Ethnic Violence
Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the recent violence in the state. Curfew was imposed after two people were killed and 29 injured when security forces fired at a mob in Bishnupur. Protests erupted following the deaths of two children in an explosion. The state government has extended the suspension of mobile internet services in five districts for two more days to prevent the spread of misinformation. Since May 2023, ethnic violence has resulted in at least 260 deaths and displaced around 60,000 people, primarily affecting the Meitei and Kuki communities.
