India LPG Prices Rise Amid West Asia Conflict and Supply Concerns

The Indian government increased domestic LPG prices by ₹60 and commercial LPG prices twice in recent months due to supply shortages linked to the conflict in West Asia. Approximately 60% of India's LPG imports come through the Strait of Hormuz, which has seen a significant drop in shipping activity. Currently, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is ₹913 in New Delhi, while a 19 kg commercial cylinder costs ₹2,078.50. In response to the supply crunch, the government is encouraging consumers and industries to transition to alternative energy sources such as electric cookstoves and piped natural gas. Officials have maintained that LPG supply remains stable and have advised against panic buying.
