Kuki-Zo Council Seeks Centre's Intervention Amid Manipur Supply Blockade
The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) met with Intelligence Bureau Director Mahesh Dixit and Union Home Ministry officials on July 13, 2026, requesting intervention in the ongoing crisis in Manipur's Kangpokpi district. The KZC reported that at least 15 Kuki-Zo individuals have been killed and 14 villages burned since ethnic conflicts began on May 3, 2023. The council is advocating for a separate Union Territory with a legislature. The blockade imposed by Naga groups has severely impacted the supply of essentials, with prices soaring—half a bag of rice now costs ₹3,500. The KZC has submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Amit Shah detailing their demands and highlighted the urgent need for security in vulnerable villages. Talks for a political settlement with Kuki-Zo insurgent groups are ongoing.
