Indian Soldier Dies After Kishtwar Gun Battle with Terrorists

Havildar Gajendra Singh, an Indian soldier, succumbed to injuries sustained during a gun battle with terrorists in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. He died on the night of 18-19 January while receiving treatment at a military hospital in Jammu. The encounter occurred during Operation TRASHI-I, which began on 18 January in Sonnar village, resulting in injuries to eight soldiers due to a grenade attack. The operation has since resumed, with security forces, including the Indian Army, J&K Police, and CRPF, conducting extensive search operations in the area. Officials believe two to three terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad are hiding nearby. This incident marks the third encounter between security forces and militants in the Jammu region in 2026.
