Supreme Court Adjourns Delhi Protest Hearing to October 15
The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on petitions regarding the Delhi protest crackdown to October 15 due to a judge's illness. The court has instructed Delhi Police and relevant authorities to submit their responses by Wednesday evening concerning contempt proceedings related to alleged detentions and restrictions on public transport ahead of a planned demonstration. The petitions challenge the police's actions during the protests, which were aimed at demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A special bench had previously ordered that peaceful protesters could not be detained unlawfully and mandated the restoration of normal metro and railway services. The court's intervention follows allegations of police excesses and concerns about access to justice amid the protests.
