CPI (Maoist) Faces Leadership Crisis After Key Figures Killed or Surrendered
Nambala Keshava Rao, general secretary of the CPI (Maoist), was killed on May 21, 2025, in Chhattisgarh. His successor, Thippiri Tirupati, surrendered by February 2026 with cadres and weapons. The organisation is now largely leaderless, following the deaths and arrests of most Central Committee leaders. Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that the insurgency could be considered 'finished' by a March 31 deadline.
