This visit occurs as tensions rise over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global oil supplies. The US has announced plans to intensify economic pressure on Iran, targeting countries that maintain trade ties. Oil traffic through the strait has significantly declined, with only about 5 million barrels passing through on Monday, compared to 20 million before the conflict began. Despite a pause in major fighting, unresolved issues remain, complicating potential agreements. The visit aims to facilitate dialogue amid these ongoing challenges.
