US to Blockade Iranian Gulf Ports Starting Monday Evening
The US military will begin a blockade of all Iranian Gulf ports on Monday at 7.30 pm IST. This action aims to control ships entering and leaving Iran while allowing vessels not bound for Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil supply. The blockade will be enforced against vessels of all nations, as stated by US Central Command. The UK has opted not to join the blockade, advocating for open navigation in the strait. Australia also expressed no intention to participate, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calling for continued negotiations. Tensions have escalated following the collapse of recent talks between the US and Iran, with President Donald Trump considering military strikes alongside the blockade. The Strait of Hormuz is vital, handling about one-fifth of the world's oil supply.
