India-US Trade Talks Begin Today in Washington
India and the United States will resume negotiations on the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) in Washington DC from April 20 to 22. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor confirmed the arrival of an Indian trade delegation for the discussions, which aim to finalize the trade deal. The BTA negotiations were initially launched by President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2025. A framework for an Interim Agreement was announced on February 7, reaffirming both countries' commitment to reciprocal trade. The agreement is expected to enhance market access and support resilient supply chains. Recent developments include the removal of 25% tariffs on certain Indian exports and the invalidation of reciprocal tariffs by the US Supreme Court on February 20, 2026.
