India, US to Enhance Strategic Cooperation in Indian Ocean
India and the United States are planning strategic projects in the Indian Ocean under the Indian Ocean Strategic Venture (IOSV). This initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump in February 2025, aims to improve infrastructure, including ports and telecommunications, in Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Mauritius. Key focuses include maritime security, countering illegal activities, and providing regional countries with alternatives to China's state-backed enterprises. Recent discussions between Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and US Under Secretary of State Allison Hoover have intensified ahead of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's expected visit to India later in October.
