India to Acquire Javelin Anti-Tank Missile System from US
India has decided to procure 16 units of the Block 1 Javelin missile system, valued at ₹292 crore, following Operation Sindoor. The deal includes 64 FGM 148-F anti-tank guided missiles, with delivery expected within a year. However, approval delays from the US Congress have extended the contract timeline. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor emphasised the importance of technology transfer for enhancing India-US defence ties. The Javelin system's co-production has faced challenges due to restrictions on technology sharing. This procurement comes after India previously opted for the Spike system amid delays in developing its indigenous NAG ATGM. The Javelin deal marks a significant step in strengthening defence cooperation between India and the US.
