India Initiates Key Trade Talks with US, Canada, New Zealand, South Korea

India is set to engage in significant trade discussions starting Monday, including in-person talks with the US, the signing of a free trade agreement with New Zealand, and negotiations with Canada. The review of the India-South Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will also advance, following the appointment of chief negotiators. India imported $21.06 billion worth of goods from South Korea in 2024-25, leading to a trade deficit of $15.24 billion. The US talks aim to finalize an interim bilateral trade agreement after the US Supreme Court's ruling on tariffs in February. Additionally, the India-UK FTA, ratified in July 2025, is expected to be operationalised in May, allowing duty-free access for 99% of Indian exports to the UK.
