India Supports COP30 Outcomes, Calls for Climate Finance Commitment
India expressed strong support for the inclusive leadership of COP30 during the closing plenary in Belém, Brazil, on November 22. The Ministry of Environment highlighted the establishment of the Just Transition Mechanism as a significant milestone. India welcomed progress on the Global Goal on Adaptation and emphasized the need for developed countries to fulfill long-standing climate finance obligations. The summit concluded with a pledge to triple adaptation finance by 2035, amounting to approximately $120 billion. However, no roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels was established. The Indian delegation, led by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, reiterated the importance of equitable climate action and called for global support for vulnerable populations in the global South. Negotiators from 194 countries participated in the COP30 summit, which took place from November 10 to 21.
