India, Germany to Enhance Defence Cooperation During Singh's Visit
India and Germany are set to sign a defence industrial cooperation roadmap during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit from April 21 to 23. The discussions will focus on military collaboration, including cyber security and drones. This visit marks the first by an Indian defence minister to Germany in seven years. Singh's trip coincides with the finalisation of the ₹70,000-crore Project 75I, which involves building six advanced submarines in partnership with Germany's thyssenkrupp Marine Systems. The submarines will feature air independent propulsion systems, enhancing their underwater capabilities. Additionally, India is considering joining a global consortium for developing a sixth-generation fighter aircraft, aiming to bolster its air defence capabilities by 2040. The roadmap aligns with India's Defence Forces Vision 2047, which aims to modernise the military and establish a national air defence shield.
