India Increases Shakti Engine Production Capacity to 180 Annually
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is set to enhance its Shakti engine production capacity from 80 to 180 engines per year. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate a second production line at HAL's Koraput facility in Odisha, representing an investment of ₹218 crore. The Shakti engine, co-developed with Safran, supports indigenous helicopters like the Dhruv and Prachand. Additionally, the Koraput division will deliver its 2,000th AL-31FP engine, which powers the Sukhoi-30MKI. HAL has a contract to supply 240 aero-engines worth ₹26,000 crore for Su-30 fighters, with an indigenous content target of up to 63%. This initiative aligns with India's goal of enhancing domestic defence manufacturing capabilities.
