India and Canada Aim to Finalize Trade Deal by End of 2026

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Canadian counterpart François-Philippe Champagne reaffirmed their commitment to conclude the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the end of 2026. This announcement followed the inaugural India-Canada Finance Ministers’ Economic and Financial Dialogue in Toronto on August 28, 2026. The two countries aim to increase bilateral trade to ₹4.65 lakh crore by 2030, up from ₹70,354 crore in 2025-26. India also expressed readiness to begin negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Treaty. Discussions included enhancing collaboration between financial institutions and exploring investment opportunities in sectors such as green ammonia and advanced battery storage.
