Missouri Flooding: Hundreds Rescued Amid Severe Weather Conditions

Flash flooding in southeastern Missouri has trapped hundreds along the Black River due to torrential rains from thunderstorms. Governor Mike Kehoe declared a state of emergency to facilitate disaster assistance. National Guard helicopters rescued around 200 people from a youth camp, with half being children. Emergency teams also rescued over 90 individuals from inundated homes and vehicles. Conditions worsened as two rescue boats capsized but all crew members were safely recovered. The storms dropped 6 to 12 inches (150 to 300 mm) of rain, affecting eight states and over 21 million people. As of Friday evening, no fatalities were reported, but one person remains missing in Crawford County. Search teams are set to return to affected areas as floodwaters recede.
