Rally in Manipur Demands End to Ethnic Strife and Political Changes
On November 5, 2026, hundreds rallied in Ukhrul district, Manipur, calling for an end to ongoing ethnic strife. Demonstrators demanded the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact with militant groups and the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen. The rally, organised by the Tangkhul Naga Long and other groups, highlighted the need for a resolution to the political crisis and the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Naga areas. Since February, over 50 people have died in clashes between Kuki and Naga communities, with previous violence resulting in more than 300 fatalities and thousands displaced.
