EU Moves to Phase Out Chinese Telecom Equipment from Networks
The European Union is reportedly planning to expel Chinese companies, including Huawei and ZTE, from critical infrastructure. This initiative aims to phase out Chinese-made equipment from telecom networks and solar energy systems. The European Commission is exploring methods to limit the use of these suppliers in fixed-line networks. This follows a similar stance taken by the United States in 2022, which banned new telecommunications equipment approvals from these companies. The UK and Sweden have already prohibited the use of Chinese vendors in their networks. Huawei is also evaluating the future of its recently completed plant in eastern France amid these developments.
