On Thursday, a building in Chawri Bazar, Old Delhi, collapsed, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to two others. The FIR alleges that contractors ignored warnings from construction workers about structural weaknesses. The building, measuring approximately 70 square yards, collapsed in two stages around 9.30 am while concrete work was ongoing. The arrested contractors, identified as Siraj, Tajuddin, and Furkan, were taken into custody in Faridabad. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi had previously been alerted about unauthorized construction activities in the area. Following the incident, the Chief Minister ordered the suspension of relevant engineering staff and initiated an inquiry into the construction practices. Rescue operations faced challenges due to narrow lanes, necessitating manual debris removal.
