UN Climate Talks Stalled Over Fossil Fuel Roadmap Dispute
UN climate negotiations in Belem, Brazil, remain stalled as negotiators failed to agree on a draft proposal from the Brazil Presidency. The draft omits references to fossil fuel phaseout roadmaps, causing a divide between developed and developing countries. While Brazil supports including fossil fuel language, countries like China, India, and Russia oppose it. The draft acknowledges the need for a 43% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and aims to scale up climate finance to developing nations to at least $1.3 trillion annually by 2035. A two-year work programme on climate finance was established, responding to demands from developing countries, particularly India.
