India Maintains Maritime Traffic Through Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions

Updated 1 day ago: The ceasefire date was updated from April 9 to April 8, and the context of disruptions was expanded to include US and Israeli actions against Iran and the involvement of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

India has successfully maintained maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas supply. Currently, 13 Indian-flagged vessels, including crude oil and LPG tankers, are operating in the area. The Strait has faced significant disruptions since late February due to US and Israeli actions against Iran, which led to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps shutting down vessel movement. Despite a ceasefire since April 8, commercial shipping remains restricted. India coordinates ship movements through its Ministry of External Affairs and other relevant ministries, ensuring essential resource supply amid global energy uncertainties. The Strait of Hormuz is crucial, accounting for nearly a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supply in pre-war times.
