Supreme Court Judge Seeks Removal of Rajasthan HC Acting Chief Justice

Updated 2 days ago: Justice Mehta requested the removal of Acting Chief Justice Sharma, cited misuse of powers and preferential treatment for 'rich and influential' litigants, and noted that Sharma has been acting chief since May 2025 instead of over 10 months.

Justice Sandeep Mehta has requested the removal of acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma from the Rajasthan High Court, citing misuse of powers and preferential treatment for 'rich and influential' litigants. In three letters dated August 2, 10, and 17, Mehta outlined concerns including corruption, nepotism, and selective case assignments to Sharma's bench. He also noted that judges faced threats of transfer for non-cooperation. Justice Sharma has been acting chief since May 2025, after a series of transfers and requests for repatriation. Mehta has urged the Chief Justice of India to appoint a chief justice from another state and transfer Sharma to preserve the integrity of the judiciary.
