Greek National Charged with Spying on Journalist in London
UK authorities have charged Ioannis Aidinidis, a 46-year-old Greek national, with espionage for allegedly surveilling a London-based journalist linked to Iran International. Aidinidis, arrested on May 16, is accused of travelling to the UK twice in April and May 2026 to conduct surveillance, including installing a covert camera. He faces charges under the UK’s National Security Act and is currently in custody. The case follows a series of attacks on journalists associated with Iran International, which has been designated a 'terrorist' organisation by Tehran. Aidinidis is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on June 19. The Metropolitan Police stated there is no broader threat to the public, although concerns have been raised regarding the safety of Persian-language media workers in the UK.
