Gen Anil Chauhan Concludes Tenure as Chief of Defence Staff

Gen Anil Chauhan completed his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff on May 30, 2026, after three years and eight months in the role. He focused on enhancing synergy among India's three military services and played a key role in Operation Sindoor. Lt Gen N.S. Raja Subramani (retd) will succeed him on May 31, 2026. Gen Chauhan, who took charge in September 2022, was previously the Director General of Military Operations during the Balakot airstrike in February 2019. He has received multiple awards for his service, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. His tenure was extended beyond the original end date of September 30, 2025.
