India Approves ₹1.86 Lakh Crore Green Energy Corridor Phase-III
The Union Cabinet has approved the ₹1.86 lakh crore Green Energy Corridor Phase-III (GEC-III) to enhance India's renewable energy infrastructure. This phase allocates ₹1.36 lakh crore for intra-state transmission systems and ₹50,000 crore for a 50 GWh battery energy storage system. GEC-III aims to evacuate up to 135 GW of renewable power by FY2032-33, addressing the gap between installed capacity and actual generation. With total central financial support of ₹54,082 crore, the project seeks to attract private investment and improve the reliability of renewable energy supply. India's electricity demand is projected to grow at an average of 6.4% annually through 2030, necessitating robust infrastructure to support its goal of 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
