The proposed red hexagonal labels would apply to products containing high levels of at least two of the specified nutrients. This initiative comes amid rising health concerns, with a recent study predicting that 450 million Indians could be overweight or obese by 2050. The introduction of these labels may challenge food companies in India's $100 billion market, which have previously opposed such measures, citing consumer confusion. The FSSAI plans to implement these rules gradually, excluding products with a single ingredient.
