First Atlantic Hurricane of the Year Expected to Hit US Gulf Coast

A tropical depression has formed off the Mexican coast, about 630 miles south of the Mississippi River, with winds of 35 mph. It is expected to become Tropical Storm Isaias by Wednesday and reach hurricane strength by Thursday, potentially peaking at 100 mph as a Category 2 hurricane. The storm is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall, with up to 6 inches expected across the Gulf states, and isolated areas may receive up to 10 inches. This marks the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, which typically sees its first hurricane by mid-August. The current season has seen eight named storms but no hurricanes so far.
