Supreme Court Directs SIT to Report on Ayodhya Donation Embezzlement
The Supreme Court has taken charge of the investigation into the Ayodhya Ram mandir donation embezzlement case, directing the Uttar Pradesh government-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to submit a status report within a week. The court is addressing four public interest litigations (PILs) that demand independent investigations and audits of temple finances by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The SIT, formed on June 13, has arrested eight individuals in connection with the case, which involves allegations of misappropriation of donations. The investigation has identified around 70 suspicious incidents from April 27 to June 5, including staff concealing cash. The court has also sought responses from the Centre, UP government, and the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust regarding the matter.
