K. Kavitha Protests for Women's Reservation Bill Ahead of ED Appearance
Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K. Kavitha initiated a six-hour hunger strike on March 10, advocating for the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill. The protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi saw participation from over 10 political parties, including the Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal. The Bill, which aims to reserve 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies for women, has faced numerous challenges since its introduction in 1996. Currently, women constitute about 14% of Parliament, a figure lower than that of several neighbouring countries. The Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed the protest as a tactic to divert attention from the Delhi liquor policy case involving Kavitha.
