India Calls for Permanent Member Expansion in UN Security Council Reform
India has stated that reforms to the United Nations Security Council must include an expansion of the permanent member category with veto power. During the Inter-Governmental Negotiations meeting on April 14, 2026, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish highlighted that failing to do so would maintain current imbalances within the UN. He also expressed concerns that introducing a new category, with or without veto, could complicate ongoing discussions that reflect diverse perspectives.
