Denmark Deploys Soldiers to Greenland Amid US Tensions

Denmark has increased its military presence in Greenland, with approximately 100 soldiers already in Nuuk and another 100 expected in Kangerlussuaq. This deployment is part of the Arctic Endurance training exercise and is a response to perceived Russian threats, according to Danish military officials. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the US government is aware of Europe's potential responses to threats against national interests. Tensions escalated after US President Donald Trump threatened tariffs on European NATO allies over Greenland. The European Union is considering a package of tariffs on €93 billion ($108 billion) worth of US goods, with an emergency summit scheduled for Thursday to discuss further actions. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged for calm discussions among allies regarding the situation.
