ECI to Meet Social Media Executives on Misinformation Ahead of Elections
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will meet with senior executives from major social media platforms on March 11 at Nirvachan Sadan. The meeting aims to address misinformation and AI-generated deepfakes ahead of upcoming assembly elections in states including West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. ECI officials plan to discuss enhancing monitoring of election-related content and improving response times to complaints. This is the first structured meeting between the ECI and technology firms regarding election content issues. The Commission is also developing a technological framework to detect manipulated digital content, including deepfakes and synthetic audio. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen institutional preparedness for the role of artificial intelligence in electoral politics.
