India Sends Medical Supplies to Africa Amid Ebola Outbreak

India has dispatched its first batch of medical supplies to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in response to the Ebola outbreak affecting parts of the continent. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed this on May 29, 2026. The World Health Organization had previously declared the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17. The Congolese government has reported over 1,000 suspected cases and at least 220 deaths since the outbreak was declared on May 15. The supplies were handed over by India's High Commissioner in Uganda to the Africa CDC, which was established in 2016 to enhance public health initiatives across African Union member states.
