Updated 1 day ago: The new version includes the campaign title 'Shanti: India for the United Nations Security Council 2028-29,' mentions nearly 300,000 personnel deployed in peacekeeping missions, and specifies that India would serve alongside five permanent members and ten rotating non-permanent members if elected.

India has officially launched its campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028-29 term. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar introduced the campaign, titled 'Shanti: India for the United Nations Security Council 2028-29,' at the UN headquarters. India aims to secure the seat amid growing global conflicts and instability, competing against Tajikistan in the Asia-Pacific Group category. Jaishankar highlighted India's commitment to peacekeeping, noting nearly 300,000 personnel deployed in about 50 missions since the UN's inception. If elected, India would serve alongside five permanent members and ten rotating non-permanent members, contributing to decision-making in the Council. The elections are scheduled for June next year.
