Over 700 Citizens Allege PM Modi Violated Election Code in Address

More than 700 citizens have filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national address on April 18 violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The signatories, including former civil servants and activists, claim the speech, broadcast on government platforms, constituted electioneering and gave the ruling party an undue advantage. The MCC is in effect in states like Assam and Tamil Nadu, with votes to be counted on May 4. The complaint urges the Commission to review the address and ensure equal airtime for opposition parties. Notable signatories include former Delhi lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung and economist Jayati Ghosh.
