CPI(M) Criticises BJP's Delimitation Bill as Gerrymandering Attempt
T.M. Thomas Isaac of the CPI(M) has accused the BJP of gerrymandering through its Delimitation Bill, aiming to influence the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He noted the recent notification of the Women’s Reservation Bill, asserting that the BJP's focus is on electoral success rather than women's representation. Isaac highlighted a proposed 77% increase in representation for North Indian states compared to 33% for South Indian states, suggesting that this imbalance would not secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament. He expressed concern over the potential for future changes to representation rules that could require only a simple majority, warning against leaving the state's future to the BJP's discretion.
